Ravenstone specialises in proactive bone health and healthy ageing, helping women understand what is happening to their bones, muscle and long-term health before problems begin to affect the way they live.

Founded by Jayne Denton, a Diagnostic Radiographer with over 30 years’ clinical experience, Ravenstone offers advanced REMS bone health assessments using innovative, radiation-free ultrasound technology. REMS provides an assessment of bone density and bone quality at the lumbar spine and hip, helping to identify osteoporosis and osteopenia and providing valuable insight into future fracture risk.

Our approach is particularly relevant for women approaching, going through or beyond menopause, when changes in hormones can accelerate the loss of bone and muscle, often without any obvious symptoms.

But Ravenstone is about much more than a scan. We believe knowing your results should be the beginning of the conversation, not the end.

Following assessment, we help women understand their individual risk factors and the practical steps they can take to protect their future health. This can include personalised strength and exercise support, nutrition and protein guidance, vitamin D and omega-3 testing, and wider lifestyle factors including sleep, recovery and inflammation.

We also deliver Healthy Ageing talks, educational events and bone health screening days for businesses, clubs, women’s groups and organisations across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

Our aim is simple: to help women identify risks earlier, make informed decisions about their health and stay strong, active and independent for the years ahead.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is a REMS bone health assessment?
REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is an advanced ultrasound-based assessment that measures bone health at the lumbar spine and hip. It provides information about bone density and bone quality, helping to identify osteoporosis and osteopenia and assess future fracture risk.

How is REMS different from a DEXA scan?
DEXA uses a low dose of X-ray radiation to measure bone mineral density. REMS uses ultrasound technology and assesses both bone density and aspects of bone quality, providing a detailed picture of bone health without radiation.

Is the assessment radiation free?
Yes. REMS uses ultrasound rather than X-rays, so it is completely radiation free. This also makes it particularly useful for monitoring bone health and measuring changes over time.

Who should consider having a bone health assessment?
Anyone wanting to understand and protect their bone health can benefit, but it can be particularly valuable for women approaching or going through menopause, people with a family history of osteoporosis, previous fractures, low body weight, certain medical conditions or medications that affect bone, or anyone concerned about maintaining their strength and independence as they age.

Why is bone health particularly important during perimenopause and menopause?
Falling oestrogen levels during the menopause transition can accelerate bone loss. Because this often happens without symptoms, understanding your bone health earlier gives you the opportunity to take proactive steps with strength training, nutrition, lifestyle and, where appropriate, medical support.

What happens after I receive my results?
Your results are explained to you as part of your appointment so you understand what they mean for you. We discuss your individual risk factors and the practical steps you can take to support your bones and muscles. Where appropriate, we may recommend further testing, targeted strength and lifestyle support, or that you discuss particular findings with your GP or another healthcare professional.

Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book a REMS bone health assessment directly with Ravenstone without a GP referral. If your results indicate that further medical investigation or treatment may be appropriate, we will advise you to discuss this with your GP.

How do I get started?

You can book a Bone Health Assessment directly with Ravenstone, or contact us if you’re unsure which option is right for you. Assessments are available at our Bolton clinic, with additional screening days held across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

I feel well and have never had a fracture. Is a bone health assessment still relevant to me?

Yes. Bone loss can happen without pain or obvious symptoms, which is why many people don’t know there is a problem until much later.

You don’t need to wait for a fracture or a diagnosis to start understanding your bone health. An assessment can give you valuable information now, while there may still be plenty you can do to protect your bones, strength and independence for the future.

Excellent service from Jayne and her son Luca. I was wanting to assess how well or otherwise my bone health is. I knew that REM bone scans are an excellent tool for assessing not only osteoporosis but the quality of the bone structure. I found Jayne at Ravenstone Wellness via a Google search and visited her at her Horwich premises. I had no idea what to expect but from the moment I spoke to her on the phone in the initial consultation to the scan process was first rate. She explained clearly in language that is easy to understand the whole process. I really like that Luca her son was present to discuss an exercise routine. He has an excellent knowledge of bone health for women and men as we age. The premises feel very spa like and immediately both Jayne and Luca put you at ease. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ravenstone Wellness.

If you are looking for a REMS bone density scan in the North West I would highly recommend Jayne Denton and her son Luca, who are based at Ravenstone Wellness in Horwich, Bolton. From the moment I arrived, Jayne made me feel completely at ease. She was warm, professional, and took the time to explain every step of the process clearly, making me feel calm and at ease. What really set this appointment apart was having Luca on hand as well. As a personal trainer and nutrition specialist, he was able to put the scan results into real-world context — offering practical, knowledgeable guidance on how lifestyle, exercise and nutrition all connect to bone health. It felt less like a clinical appointment and more like a genuinely holistic health consultation. The REMS technology itself is impressive, but it's the expertise and care that Jayne and Luca bring to the experience that truly makes the difference. I left feeling informed, empowered, and with a clear picture of my bone health and the steps I can take to support it. Absolutely five stars — a fantastic mother-and-son team doing brilliant work.

I had been considering a bone scan for sometime to see how the menopause has affected my bone health. A close friend had previously used Ravenstone Wellness in Horwich near Bolton, Greater Manchester and she highly recommended I chat to Jayne about my concerns. Jayne was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and she put me at ease by telling me how the REMS bone scan she specialises in is radiation free. This was music to my ears because I wasn't comfortable with the radiation exposure I would get using the traditional DEXA scan. I had the scan which was quick and pain free and I received my full report very soon after. I would highly recommend Ravenstone Wellness for anyone wishing to invest in their health. Jayne has given me guidance and advice to help improve my bone health and I would not hesitate in recommending this service to anyone, male or female. Thank you Jayne!

I had been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and I was looking for somebody who would do a REMS scan for me, and I was lucky enough to find Jayne at Ravenstone Wellness, based in Horwich, Bolton. Jayne has been really helpful. She carried out the REMS scan and explained the results, and she also gave me excellent information on exercise and nutrition which will hopefully help with my conditions of osteoporosis, and also osteoarthritis. Jayne has spent a lot of time going over the information I have sent her about my health, and she is always knowledgeable about my situation whenever I contact her. I will keep in contact with her and I will go back for another REMS scan after a suitable length of time, in the hope that I might see some improvement in the results. I am so grateful to her because the diagnosis of osteoporosis came as a shock, and it is good to know that Jayne is always there if I need to discuss anything and nothing seems too much trouble for her. I am so pleased that I came across her when I did.

I wanted to assess my Osteoporosis "risk" & found Jayne Denton at Ravenstone wellness to be highly rated in her field. Having decided on Jayne-I researched her & others, I needed ease of access- only a 10 minute drive from the motorway exit- with access to free parking - not City centre Manchester with all the hassle & parking issues- and add on costs. I can honestly say that her services are excellent, well priced & would highly recommend.
