Quiet, guided grief meditation and monthly Full Moon Circles for women, in Cheadle. No speaking, no sharing, nothing to perform. Just space to feel what you feel.

Grief doesn’t only come with death. It can come with a divorce, a diagnosis, a friendship ending, a child leaving home, a role that no longer fits, or the loss of the life you thought you’d have. Sometimes it turns up years later, when you least expect it.

I’m Penelope Silver. I’ve been a Reiki Master and meditation facilitator for around twenty years. Life, Loss & Becoming began after I lost my mum. It’s a small, gentle space for women who are carrying something and don’t want to explain it. You don’t need to explain yourself here. You only need to arrive.

There are two ways to join me, both at Yoga Sangha in Cheadle.

1. GRIEF MEDITATION

How you might be feeling before you come
You might be holding it together on the outside while it’s heavy on the inside. You may feel you should be “over it” by now, or that nobody wants to hear about it any more. You might be worn out from being strong for everyone else. You may be afraid that if you start to cry, you won’t stop. You might not want to talk about it at all, and you’re tired of being asked to.

What happens
It’s a small group of up to 20 women in a softly lit room. I guide you through a calming meditation. Then you have around 20 minutes to write privately in a journal, which is yours to take home. Nobody speaks and nobody shares. There’s no circle of stories and no pressure to open up. It’s deliberately personal, and very different from talk-based grief groups.

What women tell me afterwards
That a weight lifted. That they cried without being watched. That they felt less alone just by being in the room. Grief doesn’t vanish, but it softens when it’s given somewhere safe to be. Slowly, you begin to find yourself again. That is the “becoming”.

Details: £22 per session. Sessions run monthly from September 2026 to June 2027. September, October and November are mornings, 11am to 12pm. After that they are Friday evenings, 7pm to 8pm. Both the morning and evening sessions have sold out before, so book ahead.

2. FULL MOON CIRCLE

How you might be feeling before you come
This year may have asked a lot of you, and you’ve had no space to stop and take stock of it. You might be carrying an ending, a bereavement, or a quiet, persistent wanting you’ve learned to call “unrealistic” or “too much”, and you’ve never said it out loud. Or you may not know what you’re carrying at all until you’re sitting in a candlelit room. All of it is welcome.

What happens in the room
This isn’t a class. There’s no agenda, nothing to perform, and nobody asks to see what’s in your journal. It’s a softly lit room, held gently, for 90 minutes. Each month the evening is shaped around the energy of that particular moon, because grief, growth and wanting move with the seasons.

  • Guided meditation. I take you on a guided journey linked to that month’s moon, to notice what has grown this year, what is ready to be set down, and what you really want next. Not the tidy version. The real one.
  • Quiet journalling. Private time to write about what you’re ready to release, what has finished its season, and what has been heavy.
  • Making something with your hands. Each month we make something together, linked to that moon. At our Harvest Moon Circle, for example, we made fire cider (a warming folk remedy of horseradish, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chilli, citrus and honey). Each woman built her own jar and quietly named the one thing she was brave enough to want next before sealing it. She took it home to steep for four weeks, so her intention grew stronger while she wasn’t watching. Everything you need is provided.
  • A closing prompt. We finish with one last journalling question, which the whole evening has been building towards.

You don’t have to speak, share or explain your grief, your losses or your life.

What women take home
A little more clarity. A sense of lightness and of having been heard by their own heart. A journal of honest thoughts, and often a keepsake to take home. Most of all, the feeling of having marked the month on purpose, in the company of other women, rather than just getting through it.

What to bring: A cushion or blanket, water, and clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. A journal, pen and all materials are provided.

Details: £33 per person. Held monthly around the full moon, with places limited to keep the room small. Dates and booking are on my website: www.penelopesilver.co.uk

Some health information: Our crafts sometimes involve ingredients like garlic, chilli and honey. If you’re pregnant, on medication or have any allergies, let me know beforehand and I’ll provide a suitable alternative.

Who it’s for: Any woman who is grieving, in transition, or simply tired of holding it all together. There’s no right or wrong way to come.

Yoga Sangha is the most wonderful place to visit for a variety of events and classes for your physical and mental wellbeing + health, right here in South Manchester. I have been here many times for Yoga classes, open days, and sound healing. I also have been using the therapy room for working with my one-to-one clients for over 3 years now. It's a very calm environment with peaceful vibes and always smells of lovely incense and massage oils. Yvette, the owner, looks after the Sangha with much love and care and I can highly recommend visiting. Whether you want to join an event, class or perhaps consider joining as a holistic wellbeing practitioner etc.

Lovely clean and well kitted out space. Yvette is such a top host and will go out of her way to ensure your stay is as welcoming as can be whether you are a student or practitioner. I have been holding my sound healing therapy sessions here for the best part of three years now, since it opened and we're still going strong.

I adore practicing yoga in this space, it is a beautiful quiet escape from the city and from busy life! the community are so welcoming and Yvette is an outstanding, beautiful, compassionate teacher. I live in Scotland, but I travel to train here whenever I can and always feel so at home. They offer online classes too, and they are fantastic, you can sometimes feel a bit disconnected online, but honestly, classes with Yvette are exactly the same, whether virtual or in person, I can't recommend this studio highly enough, you have to visit to experience it.

Practicing ashtanga at Yoga Sangha has been really transformative for me. I started attending classes seven months ago as a complete beginner, and practicing there is so inclusive and empowering. I can see and feel such difference in my mind-body connection, flexibility, core strength, balance. I really like Tim's and Yvette's classes. I never thought that I'd be doing inversions. Best yoga studio around.
